AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday, overwhelming Pacific Lutheran in the first game before falling to Rhodes in the nightcap.
Tied at 2-all, the Tornados would break it open in the fourth as they batted around and pushed across four runs on six hits, including a
Daniel Williams double to left that gave CTX the lead for good.
Caleb Nicholson would enter into a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fifth, racking up back-to-back strikeouts and then inducing a popout to escape the inning unscathed and picked up his second straight win of the season in relief.
The Tornados would tack on runs in the next two innings, including a three-run home run from
Caleb Rodriguez, who sent the ball over the left field wall to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
Justin Traxler would enter the game and allow only a pair of runs over the final four innings to pick up his first save of the year as CTX defeated the Lutes 12-4.
In the final game of the third day of the Concordia Classic taking on the Lynx, the Tornados would take an early 5-0 lead after a four-run fourth inning that included a
Tyler Page two-run single.
Rhodes would respond in the bottom half of the third, putting up a five-spot and tying it at 5-all. They would tack on another run in the fourth and lead 6-5.
Concordia Texas would try and mount a rally, but would leave ten runners stranded on the bases as the Lynx would add on to their lead with four runs in the seventh, followed by a three-run eighth.
The Tornados would get one back in ninth a
Michael Evan sac fly, but it was all CTX could afford as they lost 13-6.
The Tornados will wrap up the Concordia Classic on Sunday, facing Schreiner in the final game of the tournament at 1 p.m. and look pick up win number three of the season.
