CTX dominates Louisiana College in doubleheader sweep

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team continued its hot play in American Southwest Conference action with a doubleheader sweep of Louisiana College Thursday at Tornado Field.

The Tornados outscored the Wildcats 20-2 in the two games, winning game one 15-0 before taking game two 5-2 to move to 18-8, 11-3 ASC.

After the doubleheader sweep, CTX now currently sits alone atop the ASC standings.

In the first game of the day, the Tornados jumped ahead early with five runs in the bottom half of the second inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Michael Evan and a two-RBI single off the bat of Carson Cox.

Two-out hitting was the name of the game for CTX, as they scored the final 12 of their 15 runs with two away.

In the third inning, the Tornados got an RBI double by Ryan Clouse and an RBI triple from Clarence Guidry III to move ahead 5-0.

Guidry III, a junior from Pflugerville, Texas, finished the doubleheader 4-for-6 with an RBI, three runs scored and extended his hitting streak to seven games.

The game was broken open in the fourth when CTX put eight more runs on the scoreboard. In the inning, the Tornados got six RBI singles with two away.

Matthew Williams (3-2) was stellar on the mound, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out six over 7.0 innings of work.

Game two of the doubleheader saw the Tornados take an early 1-0 lead in the second off the second homer of the year by Michael Evan over the right field wall.

After LC tied the game in the top half of the third, CTX answered with a run of their own in the bottom half thanks to an RBI single from Casen Novak.

Louisiana College tied it up once again in the fourth inning, but Concordia continued to battle as they scored a single run in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning to make the lead 5-2.

Jacob Gwynne was responsible for two of the Tornados' runs in the win, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Cole Angelle kept his perfect record intact on the mound after hurling 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and fanning three.

Reigning ASC co-pitcher of the week Justin Traxler picked up his sixth save of the season and his third in the last five games. Traxler, a senior from Austin, Texas, gave up no runs, two hits and struck out three in 3.0 innings.

The series against Louisiana College concludes Friday at noon at Tornado Field.
