ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team kicked off their second fall tournament of the season, competing in the first day of the ITA Southwest Regional on Friday.

The tournament consists of five singles flights and three doubles flights with the opening rounds of each flight being played on Friday.

Joshua Bode was the top performer for the Tornados, winning both of his two matches in straight sets in the singles flight A to advance to the round of 16, while hooking up with Esteban Arredondo in doubles, going 1-1 on the day.

Arredondo in singles flight A would win his opening match 6-1, 6-4, but come up short in the round of 32, falling 4-6, 1-6. Jorge Garcia would also compete in flight A, dropping the opening match but bounced back in the consolation bracket, picking up a win in the round of 32.

The 2018 conference Newcomer of the Year, Hoanh Le opened the day with a win in flight A but would fall in the round of 32 matches, losing 3-6, 2-6. Le, along with Garcia, would drop a tough flight A doubles match, falling 6-8.

Adam Compton would shine in the flight B singles matches, winning both of his opening round matches, both three-set thrillers, to advance to the semifinals of the bracket. In doubles, Compton and Noah Villarreal would fall in the quarterfinals of flight B after winning their round of 16 match.

In flight D, Issac Glynn and Villarreal would both win their two singles matches to advance to the semifinals of the bracket. Evan Pena Jr., who would win his two matches in flight C to move on to the semifinals, would pair up with Glynn to go 1-1 in the doubles matches of flight C.

Ethan Espiritu rounded out the day for CTX, picking up two win in flight E to advance to the semifinals.

The Tornados will continue the ITA Southwest Regional on Saturday with round of 16 and quarterfinal matches to be played on the campus of Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas.
