ABILENE, Texas –
Joshua Bode would win both his flight A singles matches on the day to advance to the semifinals as the Concordia Texas men's tennis team competed in the second day of the ITA Southwest Regional on Saturday.
Bode would begin the day playing in the round of 16 of flight A. He would take down Trinity's Wilson Lambeth in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarters, Bode would upset top-seeded Alex Joseph out of Southwestern, winning the first set 7-5 and leading the second set 3-0 before his opponent retired.
Ethan Espiritu, meanwhile, would claim the flight E singles title after cruising to straight set wins in both his semifinals and finals matches, defeating East Texas Baptist's Juan Blanco in the championship.
Noah Villarreal, playing in flight D, would reach the finals after winning his semifinals match 3-6, 6-4, 10-2. In the finals, he would grab the first set 6-1, but ultimately come up short, finishing as the runner-up for the flight.
Evan Pena Jr., playing in the flight C semifinals, would come up short, falling in a heartbreaking match 1-6, 7-6 (4), 8-10.
Bode will be the lone representative for the Tornados on Sunday when he faces Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit in the semifinals of flight A on the campus of Hardin-Simmons at 8 a.m.
