BOX SCORE ABILENE, Texas –
Joshua Bode, of the Concordia Texas men's tennis team, defeated Trinity's Jordan Pitts in a thrilling three-set match to win the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Flight A singles title, the first ITA title in program history, on Sunday.
Bode entered the day winning his previous four matches to reach the semifinals of the bracket.
Bode would handle Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the finals of flight A, taking on Pitts.
In the final, Bode would grab the first set 6-3. Pitts would respond though, taking the second set 6-4 to set up a winner-take-all third set. In the decisive set, Bode would come out on top, winning it 6-4 to claim the flight A singles title.
It is the first ITA title in the men's tennis' program history, which is in its fourth year at CTX.
With the win, Bode qualifies as an ITA All-American and as one of the nine finalists for the upcoming ITA Cup, which will be hosted by Berry College at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga., on Oct. 11-14.
Bode will face the ITA Northwest regional champion in a play-in match with the winner moving on to the eight-player tournament for the ITA national championship.
