AUBURNDALE,Fla. – The Concordia Texas baseball team used eight different pitchers and got a 5-for-5 day from
Bret Leiferman to grab a 7-2 win over Endicott in the final game of the RussMatt Invitational Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Sports Park.
As a staff, the No. 11 Tornados allowed just allowed just two runs, with none of them coming after the second inning to move to 17-3 on the season.
Jacob Stegent got the scoring started for the Tornados in the second when he reached on an error to bring home
Carson Cox in the second to put the Tornados on top 1-0.
After Endicott produced two runs in the bottom of the second, CTX responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Ryan Clouse ripped an RBI double to left center to put the first run on the board in the inning and was subsequently brought home after an error and a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Casen Novak.
The Tornados were not done adding to the lead, as they tacked on two more in the fifth, highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles from Stegent and
Marcus Thach, and one in the sixth thanks to an RBI single from
Kalen Moreno.
The pitching staff was able to keep the Endicott bats at bay the rest of the way, allowing eight total hits and striking out seven. No pitcher went more than 2.0 innings in the contest, with
Michael Smith getting the start on the hill.
Taylor Barksdale,
Brandon Breaux and
Calvin Bush all tossed at least one inning and combined to throw 5.0 innings, giving up no runs or hits and fanning three.
Next up, CTX will return to American Southwest Conference play to take on Louisiana College in Pineville, La., at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
