PINEVILLE, La. – The Concordia Texas baseball team would play their longest game of the year, a 15-inning marathon, but come up short, falling 5-4 to Louisiana College on Friday,
The Tornados would take one-run leads into the ninth and the 13th innings, only for the Wildcats to respond with a game-tying run each time to extend the game.
In the 15th, tied at four-all, LC would load the bases with nobody out and walk it off on an infield single to take the first game of the three-game series.
Owen Hill led the team at the plate with a 3-for-6 performance, including a walk and scoring twice.
Ryan Clouse and
Cameron Rape, meanwhile, each had two hits and drove in a combined three runs.
Concordia Texas jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the game's first four innings, scoring one run in the second and two more in the fourth.
Hill led off the second with a double to left and would come home two outs later on Clouse's RBI double to left to open the scoring for the Tornados.
In the fourth, Hill and Clouse would help extend the lead.
Hill led off the frame with a walk and reach second on a ground out. He would race home on Clouse's RBI single to left-center to double the lead. A Wildcats wild pitch and passed ball would allow Clouse to reach third and he would cross home on Rape's RBI infield single to make it 3-0.
Louisiana College would chip away though, scoring a run in the fourth and seventh to pull within one as the teams headed to the ninth.
The Wildcats would force extras in the ninth, pushing across a run on a close play at the plate and went on to win it in the 15th, 5-4.
Concordia Texas will look to win the series on Saturday, facing the Wildcats in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field in Pineville, La.
