CLARSKVILLE, Ark. – Eight different Tornados recorded a base hit and the Concordia Texas baseball team finished off a sweep of Ozarks Saturday with a 6-2 win at Lonnie R. Qualls baseball field.
On the hill, five different CTX pitchers combined to give up just two runs on nine hits and strikeout six to help the Tornados move to 11-1, 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play.
For the third time in as many games, CTX got the scoring started in the top half of the first thanks to a two-RBI single off the bat of
Bret Leiferman.
The Tornados tacked on two runs in the third inning, as well, highlighted by a RBI single from
Carson Cox and a RBI double
Reed Carlton.
After Ozarks scored their first run of the game in the fourth, CTX responded immediately when
Owen Hill ripped an RBI double to left to bring home
Ryan Clouse and added another when
Casen Novak produced an RBI double of his own to make the score 6-1.
The Eagles cut the deficit to 6-2 with a leadoff homer in the sixth, but could not get any closer as
Taylor Barksdale closed the door. Barksdale, a junior out of Burnet, Texas, got the save on the bump after tossing the final 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and fanning four.
With the win, the Tornados go to 3-0 in ASC play for the first time since 2015, when they started 4-0.
Next up, CTX will return home for a three-game set in Austin, Texas, against the defending NCAA Division III Champion UT Tyler, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
