AUSTIN, Texas – After taking both games of the doubleheader on Friday against UT Dallas to open the series, the No. 16 Concordia Texas baseball team was unable to complete the sweep as they fell 6-1 on Saturday at Tornado Field.
It is the first home loss of the season for the Tornados, as they started the year a perfect 10-0 before falling on Saturday to move to 19-7, 5-4 in the American Southwest Conference.
The game was a pitchers duel through the first five innings, with neither team producing a run until the bottom half of the fifth.
Bret Leiferman gave the Tornados an early 1-0 lead when he ripped a single to left center to bring home
Jayden Hernandez.
The Comets responded quickly, however, producing all six runs in the top half of the sixth which saw four hits and an error to allow UTD to take a 6-1 lead.
Nick Flores got the start on the hill and did not factor into the decision after tossing 5.0+ innings, allowing just two hits and one run.
As a team, the Tornados left 11 runners on base over nine innings.
The Tornados will step outside of ASC play for a mid-week top-25 matchup against No. 5 Texas Lutheran on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Tornado Field.
