BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After racking up 37 wins helping the Concordia Texas baseball team advance past the regional round of the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2002, Matthew Williams, Calvin Bush and Bret Leiferman were named to the D3Baseball.com All-West Region Teams, the site announced Thursday.

Williams earned First Team All-West Region while Bush picked up second team honors and Leiferman was named to the third team. It is the second consecutive season CTX has had three players named to the All-West Region team.

This season Williams has been electric on the hill. The 2019 American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Year boasts a 2.88 ERA and is coming off becoming just the third pitcher to throw a no-hitter in postseason play in NCAA Division III history. Williams, a junior out of Austin, Texas, is also tied for the most wins of any pitcher in DIII with 12.

Bush, meanwhile, has also been stellar on the mound with a 6-0 record and a miniscule 1.60 ERA. Over 67.2 innings this season, the junior from Austin, Texas, has struck out 106 batters, which ranks eighth in all of DIII and is just five shy of setting the program single-season record.

Leiferman, a junior from Round Rock, Texas, has led the Tornados offensively all season with a team high in batting average (.379), doubles (8), homers (5) and on base percentage (.481). Lieferman has reached base safely in 47 of the 48 games he has played in this season.

As a team, the Tornados have a team ERA of 3.15 which ranks 12th in DIII while also being ranked 18th with 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Concordia Texas will compete in the first ever NCAA DIII Super Regional round against Chapman on Friday and Saturday at W.O. Hart Park in Orange, Calif. Game one will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. with games two and three (if necessary) happening on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
