BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas –
Falyn Taylor went 6-of-9 from behind the arc, pouring in a career-high 18 points, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team came up short in the last game of the season, falling to Sul Ross State 73-64 on Saturday.
It was the second straight game that Taylor set a career-high in scoring after setting a previous best against Howard Payne on Thursday. She finished her year with the Tornados with the career-high 18 points as well as adding three rebounds to the stat sheet.
The Tornados were hot out of the gate,
Havyn Perez scored the first six points of the game to give the team a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes, and the Tornados kept the pressure on, leading 16-7 with 5:15 left in the period.
Kennedy Donovan cashed in a jumper at the buzzer, and CTX led 22-18 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, SRSU started on a 7-0 run, taking a 25-22 lead with 5:15 left in the half, but Taylor knocked down a three on the next trip down the court, tying the game at 25-25 halfway through the period.
Taylor went on a tear, hitting three more shots from deep in the quarter, and the Tornados led 34-31 the halfway point.
Sul Ross State opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run, gaining a 38-36 advantage with 6:28 remaining in the period, but Taylor answered once again, drilling a three-pointer to put the Tornados back ahead 39-38.
The Tornados were outscored 13-6 for the remainder of the quarter, but two free throws at the end of the quarter from
Jessica Amezaga kept the Tornados within striking distance, trailing 51-45 heading into the final period.
Madi Maxwell scored seven points in the fourth quarter, but CTX was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 73-64 to SRSU.
Perez turned in a productive game, recording 12 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists, and
Chelsea Cogborn registered a near double-double with eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Concordia Texas' season is at an end, but the Tornados will be back in 2021-2022 loaded with experience, returning every player on the roster.
