BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team received stellar outings on the mound from
Noah Pendergrass and
Easton Migl in the rubber match against Sul Ross State, coasting to a 6-0 victory and taking the series win on Saturday.
Pendergrass started the game, allowing only four hits and striking out three in three innings of work, and Migl took things the rest of the way, throwing six innings of four-hit baseball and striking out four along the way. Migl was credited with the win, and the two juniors combined for a shutout, lifting the Tornados to a shutout win in the series finale.
After a scoreless first, Concordia Texas was the first team on the board as Mason Dubois beat out an infield single and came around to score on an errant pick-off throw. The Tornados took a 1-0 lead after one.
It was a pitcher's duel for the next few innings, and the score remained at 1-0 heading into the fifth.
Jayden Hernandezs led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to the right side and a stolen base, and
Aaron Gomez worked a walk. The two executed a double steal, putting runner on second and third for
Grayson Lee, and the senior delivered, lacing a two-RBI single to right field and extending the Tornados' lead.
Kaden Kleinert followed with an RBI single, bringing
EJ Sanchez around to score, and the Tornados led 4-0 after five innings.
The Tornados added some insurance in the eighth, adding two runs to the board before heading into the final frame. Kleinert led off with a double down the line, his second hit of the game, and Dubois was hit by a pitch, putting two runners on. An SRSU error plated the first run of the inning, and Gomez drove in the second run on an RBI sacrifice bunt, executing the squeeze play and giving CTX a 6-0 lead with one inning left to play.
Migl made quick work of the ninth, retiring the side in order and sealing a 6-0 victory and series win for the Tornados.
With the win, the Tornados advance to a 4-2 record in conference and overall, taking two of three games in both weekend series thus far.
Concordia Texas will continue their stint at Tornado Field, hosting Belhaven in Austin, Texas for a three-game set beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.
