AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team hosted non-conference foe Texas Lutheran for a midweek game, falling 15-4 Tuesday.
The Tornados trailed early after a nine-run first inning from TLU, and they were never able to make up ground, falling in seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
Dalton Watts recorded an RBI hit and scored a run, and
Mac Surles picked up an RBI hit as well.
The Texas Lutheran offense was hot out of the gates, scoring 12 runs on 11 hits in their first two at bats.
The Tornados plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second as
EJ Sanchez drew an RBI walk and
Kalen Moreno drove a sacrifice fly to right field. Heading into the third inning, CTX trailed 12-2.
In the third inning, Concordia Texas continued to chip away at the lead. After a leadoff single from
Shawn Huber,
Dalton Watts drove him in with an RBI double, and Watts came around to score on an RBI groundout from Surles. After three innings, the Tornados cut the lead to 12-4.
Hayden Schroeder threw the second and third inning in relief, striking out two and allowing only one hit in a solid outing.
Texas Lutheran tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, extending the lead to 13-4 with an RBI single.
In the top of the fifth, an RBI groundout added to the TLU lead, and the Tornados trailed 14-4.
The Bulldogs provided a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, stretching the advantage to 15-4, and the Tornados were retired in order in the bottom half of the inning, falling in seven innings.
The Tornados will look to bounce back with a three-game weekend series at Mary Hardin-Baylor, beginning with the opener on Friday at 6 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
