BELTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team opened the series with Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling 5-3 to the Cru on Friday.
The Tornados took an early lead with a three-run second inning, but UMHB chipped away and eventually took the lead sixth inning. The Tornados were unable to push any more runs across, and ultimately fell in the series opener.
Aaron Gomez recorded two hits and an RBI, and
Ian Perez picked up two knocks and scored a run in the game.
In the top of the second, the Tornados plated all three of their runs.
Otto Franz and Perez led off the frame with back-to-back singles, and they eventually came around to score on an error and an RBI single from Gomez. Finally,
Mac Surles scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Huber, and CTX took a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Cru cut into the deficit, scoring a pair of runs on three hits. Heading into the fourth inning, the Tornados advantage shrunk to 3-2.
The Cru gained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, knocking an RBI single to make the score 4-3.
A solo homer tacked another run on for UMHB, pushing the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
The Tornados were retired in order in the eighth and ninth innings, and they ultimately fell in the series opener.
With game one completed, Concordia Texas will look to bounce back with games two and three in the Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
