Tornados unable to pick up a game in doubleheader with Mary Hardin-Baylor

BELTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas baseball team closed out the weekend with a doubleheader, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor in both games.
 
In game one, the Tornados jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but UMHB turned the tide with a five-run second inning and outlasted CTX down the stretch. Ultimately, Concordia Texas fell 11-7 in the opening game.
 
Ian Perez drove in three runs in the game, and Daniel Bojorquez drove in a pair with a two-run homer. Shawn Huber also had a stellar game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
 
The Tornados began the game with a three-run inning as Aaron Gomez scored on a UMHB error and Huber and Mason Dubois came around to score on a two-RBI base knock from Perez. After just half an inning, the Tornados led 3-0.
 
The Cru stormed back in the bottom of the second, plating five runs on a two-run homer and a three-RBI double. Heading into the third inning, CTX trailed 5-3.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor tacked on another run with a solo homer in the bottom of the third, extending the lead to 6-4.
 
Daniel Bojorquez blasted a two-run homer in the following frame to bring the Tornados within one run at 6-5.
 
Perez's third RBI came in the top of the fifth as he drove a sacrifice fly to centerfield, bringing Dalton Watts across and evening the score at 6-6.
 
The Cru answered in the following frame with a solo homer, taking a 7-6 lead.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor put the game away in the bottom of the sixth, delivering a two-run homer and a pair of sacrifice flies to push the lead to 11-6.
 
In the seventh inning, Kaden Kleinert brought home Huber with an RBI double, but the Tornados' comeback effort fell short as they dropped game one 11-7.
 
In game two, Concordia Texas suffered an offensive onslaught from UMHB, falling 24-7.
 
Watts, Otto frnaz, and Mac Surles each picked up two hits and an RBI in the game, and Bojorquez added two more RBIs to bring his total on the day to four.
 
The Tornados jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as back-to-back RBI hits from Watts and Franz pushed two runs across.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor answered with an RBI double in the following frame, bringing the score to 2-1.
 
The Cru broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on an RBI single and a grand slam to take a 6-2 lead.
 
In the third inning, UMHB continued to add on, plating five runs on five hits and a CTX error. Heading into the fourth inning, the Tornados trailed 11-2.
 
The UMHB scoring continued in the fourth inning as they pushed across eight runs on six hits, extending the lead to 19-2.
 
Bojorquez delivered a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth, chipping away at the lead and making the score 19-4.
 
Kleinert drove in a run on an RBI fielder's choice in the top of the sixth, bringing the score to 19-5.
 
With two more homers in the bottom half of the sixth, the Cru pushed the lead to 24-5.
 
In the top of the seventh, Nicolas Zamora scored on a passed ball and Surles drove in Aaron San Miguel with an RBI single, but that was all for the Tornados as they fell 24-7 in seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
 
The Tornados will look to bounce back on Thursday as they return home for a three-game set with East Texas Baptist, beginning with a single game at 6 p.m.
