Austin, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team opened the weekend series against Pomona-Pitzer, dropping game one of the three by a score of 5-1. Second-year outfielder
Zach Seigrist tallied one run and one hit inside Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
Otto Franz threw the first 95 pitches throughout the course of the first five innings, scattering five hits and striking out five batters.
Brandon Goynes continued his strong start to the season, batting 2-4 on the day.
Defensively, the Tornados were successful in forcing three double plays and protecting their ground. The Sagehens posted one run in the first inning and added three more in the fifth.
Neither team would reach the scoreboard again until the bottom of the eighth inning. Seigrist secured a lead-off triple when he dropped a hit into to right field.
Julian Swift then skied a sacrifice-RBI to put Concordia on the board at 4-1.Pomona-Pitzer added one more run in the top of the ninth as they would go on to secure the win.
With game one of the series behind them, the Tornados will look to bounce back. The two teams will continue the three games set with a Saturday doubleheader, beginning with the first game at 11 AM.
