AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia baseball team was outlasted in a 10-inning thriller by a score of 8-7 against Southwestern. The Tornados forced the game into extra innings thanks to six runs scored in the bottom of the eighth inside Gardner-Boggs Field.
Southwestern turned three stolen bases into two runs in the second inning. They added two more in the third for a 4-0 lead. Looking to answer, CTX loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the frame but we're unable to capitalize.
After one more run added by the Pirates, the Tornados once again loaded the bases with two outs. Aaron Gomez made great contact with the ball, but the opposing shortstop made a leaping grab to keep the score 5-0.
Southwestern posted two more runs in the top of the sixth, but Concordia made it a 7-1 ball game when EJ Sanchez knocked a RBI-single through the right side to score Mason Vasquez.Â
CTX loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth, and exploded for six runs on one hit and three errors to even the score at 7-all. Going into extra innings, Southwestern posted one run in the top of the 10th for the go-ahead run to claim the win.
Concordia Texas will now head to Abilene, Texas for a series this weekend. Game one will be this Friday, March 24th at 7:00 p.m.
