AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team secured their first ranked win of the season with a 6-3 triumph over #23 Trinity University. The Tornados loaded the bases in three different innings and collected 13 hits overall inside Gardner-Boggs Field on Tuesday.
Concordia struck first with a RBI-single by Chris Morrow to bring home Julian Swift in the opening frame. CTX would load the bases in the second inning before a fielder's choice by Swift brought Mason Vasquez home to make it 2-0.
In the top of third, the Tigers' leadoff man would capitalize on two errors to cut into the deficit at 2-1. They would then load the bases in the fourth and tie the game with a sacrifice-fly.
Concordia loaded the bases for the second time in the game, and Kalen Clark would be hit by a pitch to reclaim a 3-2 advantage. Mason DuBois would later step up to the plate and get walked for a two-run lead.
Trinity reduced the deficit to 4-3 with a two-out, RBI-single in the top of the fifth. The Tornados loaded the bases once again in the bottom of inning, but the Tigers escaped unscathed.
After scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, Concordia added an insurance run when Aaron Gomez outran a fielder's choice. Vasquez would follow that up with a stand up RBI-double to score Morrow and make it a 6-3 game heading into the final inning.
After walking the first man in the ninth, the Tornados defense rebounded beautifully with a 643 double play and a strikeout to secure the victory.
Concordia Texas will now remain home for ASC action where they will host Sul Ross State starting this Friday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m.
