Julian Swift Sets Program Record for Hits in Consecutive Games

The freshman has posted 22 straight games with a hit.

Brownwood, Texas - Freshman leadoff hitter Julian Swift pushed his hit streak to 22 games to claim the program's longest hit streak. The Concordia Texas baseball opened up a doubleheader with a split, 10-2 and 2-3, against Howard Payne University. Ace pitcher Dakota Palmer posted a career-high 10 strikeouts in the game one victory at Don Shepard Park on Friday.

GAME ONE: W, 10-2 (7 Innings)

Concordia came out on fire in the first, with a Mason Vasquez two-RBI single (Swift, Aaron Gomez) to left for an early 2-0 lead. Howard Payne cut the lead in half in the second, but a RBI-single through the left side by Gomez scored Swift for a 3-1 score in the fourth.

Zach Seigrist extended the advantage to 5-1 when he slapped a two-RBI single to right centerfield to bring home Matthew Armes and Vasquez. The Yellowjackets notched one run in the bottom of the frame, but CTX exploded for six runs in the sixth with Seigrist tacking on another pair of RBIs to highlight the 10-2 victory.

GAME TWO: L, 3-2

With weather altering play that caused a combined six errors, offense was at a premium in game two. The Yellowjackets scored one run in the third and one run in the sixth for a 2-0 lead late in the game. With two men on in the eighth, Swift notched his record-breaking hit and tied the game with a single to right to score Seigrist and Robert Villa. 

Into extra innings, Howard Payne had a man on third with one out, but Noah Kelley and the Tornados' defense escaped the tenth unscathed. The Yellowjackets once again put a man on third in the eleventh frame, and were able to capitalize for the walk-off victory.
