Baseball Takes Two in Doubleheader at the Ozarks

Zach Seigrist homered twice in game two on Thursday.

Clarksville, Ark. - Zach Seigrist homered twice while Julian Swift also went yard as the Concordia Texas baseball team claimed both games of the doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks, 11-8 and 14-5. Nine different Tornados scored at Lonnie Qualls Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: W, 11-8 (Seven Innings)

CTX posted three multi-run RBIs and 15 hits in the offensive slugfest. Shawn Huber got the Tornados on the board with a two-RBI single through the left side to score Aaron Gomez and Swift.

Extending the lead in the second inning, Gomez capitalized with the bases loaded by smacking a two-RBI (Seigrist and Jess Lollar) single to centerfield. The lead would then be upped to 6-0 when Chris Morrow and Mason Dubois posted RBI-singles.

The Eagles reached the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, but Concordia answered in the next frame when Lollar cleared the bases with a three-run double down the right field line. Robert Villa would bring Lollar home with a RBI-single to make the score 10-1.

The Ozarks made it a 10-7 ball game thanks to three runs scored in both the fifth and sixth frames, but Swift would respond with his first career homerun over the green monster in left field for an insurance run. The Eagles would score run in the final inning, but the Tornados would earn the game one victory.

Matthew Armes reduced the deficit in half with a RBI-groundout to score Dubois in the next half inning. CTX then batted around the order and exploded for five runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Morrow. The Eagles got one run back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4.

Gomez tacked on another RBI in the sixth inning, but the Ozarks matched the run to make the score 8-5. Seigrist powered a homer to left field to make it 9-5 going into the final inning. Concordia put on two more runs in the top of the ninth, before Seigrist put on the finishing touches and slapped a three-run Homerun over the left field monster again.
