RICHARDSON, Texas – Eight American Southwest Conference member institutions were recognized by the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the spring 2023 sport seasons. Concordia was only one of two teams to each receive two citations as the Tornados garnered representation with the men's and women's teams.
The SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. Spring 2023 awards are presented in baseball, men's golf, women's golf, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field and women's track & field with each of the 10 campus SAACs voting within the sports it sponsors.
Concordia Texas and McMurry each received two nods. Both men's and women's track and field awards were presented to McMurry with both men's and women's tennis West Division awards to Concordia Texas. It is the second all-time awards in their respective sports for both institutions.
LeTourneau
led the ASC with three team SAAC awards, earning honors in softball (tri), men's tennis-East Division and women's tennis-East Division. LeTourneau has been recognized in softball twice, men's tennis eight times and women's tennis seven times since inception of the SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards.
Howard Payne
and East Texas Baptist
were selected in men's and women's golf, respectively. It is the third men's golf honor for HPU and second women's golf for ETBU.
Mary Hardin-Baylor
and Sul Ross State
joined LeTourneau as tri-recipients for softball. It is the sixth time SRSU has been recognized and third honor for UMHB.
UT Dallas
captured the baseball award for the second time in program history.
The ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award is presented for the 15th year during the 2022-23 sport seasons.
