BOX SCORE EDINBURG, Texas - The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 decision against Division I foe Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Senior forward Kallie Krenz powered the equalizer inside of the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex on Sunday.
Early in the matchup, the Tornados were aggressive offensively as they produced a corner kick opportunity two minutes in. The Vanqueros later notched the first goal of the match on a crosser in the 12th minute. CTX then responded with the equalizer in the 34th minute when Falynn Pyterek found a streaking Krenz who cut back and fired a rocket into the top left of the net.
UTRGV had possession for much of the second half as they produced 10 corner kicks throughout the entirity of the match, but the Tornados' back line held firm to keep goalkeeper Sheridan Habeeb relatively clean. In search of the go-ahead goal, Krenz placed a beautiful lob to Patricia Heckendorn that sailed just above the crossbar in the 87th minute.
The Tornados will now return home to host Cal Lutheran this Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 3:30pm.
