LONGVIEW, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team was victorious over LeTourneau University by a score of 85-76. Destiny Mathews recorded a career-high 38 points (13 rebounds), while Kiki Gonzales also posted a double-double with 13 points & 15 rebounds inside Solheim Arena on Thursday.
The Tornados jumped ahead early for a 7-0 lead. Midway through the first quarter, Madison Martinez found Daysha Tijerina for a three-pointer to extend their lead to 18-9.Â
With both teams going back-and-forth for a 37-31 score into the second frame, a feed into the post for Gonzales sparked a 7-2 run for CTX to go into the break up 44-33.Â
Even play by both teams in the third saw the Tornados lead by 10 points going into fourth quarter. A rally by the Yellowjackets brought them within two points (66-64) at the 4:45 mark.Â
Katelyn Tietjen would find Mathews for a three to initiate a run to push the Tornados' lead back to double digits with just over a minute remaining. Concordia would then close out the game at the charity stripe to earn their second straight victory.
Concordia Texas will now have almost a full month off to regroup before hosting Howard Payne on January 2nd at 5:30pm.
