Baseball Walks Off Mike Gardner Classic With 6-5 Win Over Texas Lutheran

Matthew Armes scored Daniel Bojorquez with a bunt squeeze.

AUSTIN, Texas - In the final game of the Mike Gardner Classic, the Concordia Texas Torrnados walked off a 6-5 win over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs. Mason Vasquez brought in two runs & Matthews Armes tallied the walk-off bunt RBI at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.

The Bulldogs struck first with a run in the top of the second, but CTX evened the score when Brandon Goynes capitalized on a throwing error in the bottom of the frame.

Concordia then claimed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Goynes stole two bases and then scored on a RBI single by Jess Lollar. Texas Lutheran answered with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning.

With runners in scoring position, the Torandos responded with a two-RBI double to the wall by Vasquez to score Julian Swift & Chris Morrow. The Bulldogs knotted the game at 4-all in the top of the eighth and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth.

Down to their final two outs, the Tornados loaded the bases then tied the game when Vasquez scored on a wild pitch. Armes then stepped to the plate and beautifully laid down a bunt squeeze to score Daniel Bojorquez for the win.

Concordia Texas will be back in action next Friday at 6pm where they will host Schreiner University in day one of the Concordia Classic.
