Baseball Edged in Doubleheader with #5 ETBU

The Tornados dropped a pair of matchups on Friday.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team was edged in a doubleheader with fifth-ranked East Texas Baptist University. The Tornados lost 6-0 in game one and 9-5 in game two at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: L, 6-0 (7 Innings)

Both teams' pitchers were on a roll early on as there was only one baserunner through the first three innings. The Tigers notched the first run of the game with a RBI single up the left field line in the top of the fourth. They then upped their lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Later in the frame, ETBU loaded the bases with one out before Zach Seigrist turned a fly out to centerfield into a double play with a beautiful throw out at home.

Three runs in the top of the sixth made it a 6-0 game. Down to the final two outs, Concordia loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. The Tornados would be unable to capitalize as the Tigers closed out the victory.

GAME TWO: L, 9-5

East Texas Baptist struck first with a runner rounding the bases on no hits in the top of the third. The Tornados tied the game in the bottom half when Efren Sanchez Jr. laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Seigrist. They proceeded to take their first lead of the game with a RBI-double by Colby Christian to score Julian Swift. Another run was played when a sacrifice fly Brayden Pick scored Christian for a 3-1 score.

The Tigers posted three in the fourth, but Concordia responded with another RBI-double by Christian off the metal monster in left field to tie the game at 4-all. ETBU answered with a quartet of runs for an 8-4 advantage in the fourth.

ETBU added another run in the eighth, and CTX matched the run in the final frame but the Tigers held firm for the win.

Concordia Texas will now conclude the series with ETBU tomorrow, March 2nd. First pitch is slated for 1pm
