AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team dominated in the series opener against Hardin-Simmons University. Dakota Palmer allowed no runs in 7.0 innings of action at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
Julian Swift singled through the middle to score Aaron Gomez for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Following a scoreless third inning by both teams, the Tornados loaded the bases with only one out. Efren Sanchez Jr. then singled through the left side to send Gomez & Zach Seigrist home for a 3-0 advantage.
Gomez continued his hot play with a RBI to left field that scored Jess Lollar for a 4-0 lead in the fifth. They then made it 5-0 in the sixth when Sanchez Jr. singled up the middle to score Seigrist from second. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly by Colby Christian scored Swift and Sanchez Jr. & Brandon Goynes both crossed home plate on a passed ball to make it 8-0.
The Tornados pushed the advantage to 9-0 with a RBI single to right field to score Seigrist in the seventh. Hardin-Simmons would avoid a shutout with a run in the eighth, but CTX would keep on rolling en route to the game one victory.
