AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader in the series opener with Whittier College. Colby Christian went yard in a 9-1 game one victory, while the Tornados posted three triples in the 13-4 game two win at Gardner-Boggs Field.
GAME ONE: W, 9-1 (7 Innings)
The Poets struck first with a run in the opening inning. Concordia then answered in the bottom of the second when Julian Swift doubled with the bases loaded to score Brandon Goynes & Matthew Armes. Later in the inning, Efren Sanchez Jr. put the ball in play to score Aaron Gomez. Capping off the six-run frame was Christian with his three-run homer to make it a 6-1 game.
CTX added insurance in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Chris Morrow that scored Christian in the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, Swift scored from third on a wild pitch and Morrow connected on another sacrifice fly that scored Christian for the final run of the game.

GAME 2: W, 13-4
Whittier scored one run in the first & fourth innings for a 2-0 lead. Following a triple by Zach Seigrist in the sixth, Swift recorded a RBI to cut the deficit in half.Â
The Tornados tied the game up in the seventh when Sam Ortiz laid down a bases loaded bunt, and a streaking Morrow scored from third. Seigrist then stepped up to the plate and launched the go-ahead, two-RBI double up the left field line to make it a 4-2 game.Â
Putting the game out of reach was CTX who produced a season-best nine runs in the eighth, highlighted by a pair of triples from Seigrist & Morrow. The Poets would load the bases and score two runs in the final inning, but Concordia would secure the victory.
