ALPINE, Texas - It was a historic day for the Concordia Texas baseball team where they completed a series sweep with a 18-4 run-rule victory over Sul Ross State University. Samuel Ortiz powered his first career grand slam and Zach Seigrist went yard twice at Kokernot Field on Saturday.

Ortiz's grand slam was the first for Concordia since Owen Hill on May 7, 2021 against UMHB. Chris Morrow also homered as the Tornados homered four times for the first time since March 7, 2020 against East Texas Baptist University. Concordia also posted 10 runs in the sixth innings where that is the most by the Tornados since April 22, 2023.

CTX struck first with a Colby Christian RBI-single through the left side to score Julian Swift. Efren Sanchez Jr. then posted a two-RBI single up the middle to score Aaron Gomez and Colby Christian in the first. Later in the top of the third, Mason Dubois doubled to left field and brought Morrow home for a 4-0 lead. 

The Lobos scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third, but Concordia Texas loaded the bases in the top of the fifth and scored another run with a RBI walk by Dubois to score Morrow. Seigrist then made it a 6-1 game with a sacrifice fly to assist Brayden Pick home.

Sul Ross tallied three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-4 score. Concordia then put the game away in a sixth inning with 10 runs, highlighted by Ortiz's grand slam. With a 16-4 advantage going into the seventh, Seigrist crushed his second homerun to left center for the final two runs as Concordia would cruise to the run-rule victory.

Concordia Texas will next head to Abilene, Texas for the final road series of the regular season against McMurry starting next Friday, April 19th. First pitch is set for 7pm.
