AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team split a doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks. The Tornados put up a season-high 20 runs in game one at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
GAME ONE: W, 20-2 (7 Innings)
Concordia made history in game one as the last time Concordia Texas scored 20 runs was April 1, 2017 against Howard Payne.Â
The Tornados got on the scoreboard first with a RBI-double by Colby Christian to score Julian Swift in the bottom of the first. At the next at bat, Chris Morrow powered a RBI-triple over the right fielder's outstretched glove to bring Christian home.Â
Efren Sanchez Jr. made it 3-0 with a single through the left side to score Morrow. A single to right field by Brandon Goynes rounded Kalen Clark to home for a 4-0 lead. After batting through the lineup, Swift recorded a three-run triple to centerfield. Aaron Gomez then singled to right center for a RBI. Following an error by the Eagles, Morrow capitalized at the plate with a RBI-single to cap off a nine-run, eight hit first inning.Â
The Tornados tacked on another two runs by Goynes & Matthew Armes with a two-RBI single by Gomez. The Eagles responded with a pair of runs, but CTX loaded the bases in the bottom half of third. Zach Seigrist was hit by a pitch and Swift was walked to match the runs. Gomez then tallied two more RBIs with a single, and a three-run shot to left field by Christian made it an 18-2 game going into the fourth.
After a scoreless fourth by both teams, a two-RBI homerun by Mason Vasquez (Samuel Ortiz run scored) upped the score to 20-2. This would be the final run of the game as Cocncordia capped off their biggest win of the season so far.Â

The Eagles struck first with a pair of runs in the third and one more in the top of the fourth. The Tornados made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the frame with a groundout RBI by Jess Lollar to score Morrow.
Nursing their lead through a trio of scoreless innings by both squads, the Ozarks added an insurance run in the eighth for a 4-1 lead. Concordia cut the deficit in half with a Christian RBI-single that scored Gomez. At the next at bat, Vasquez put the ball in play and an Ozark error allowed Christian to score for a 4-3 game heading into the ninth. This would be the final run of the game as the Eagles would hold on for the game two victory.
