Baseball Upends ASC Tournament Host ETBU

Julian Swift went yard twice and the Tornados launched four homeruns on Friday.

MARSHALL, Texas - In the second round of the ASC Championships, the Concordia Texas baseball team were victorious against the host team and number two-ranked East Texas Baptist University by a score of 11-6. The Tornados homered four times & sophomore leadoff Julian Swift went yard twice at Woods Field on Friday.

CTX wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as a two-RBI double by Kalen Clark scored Colby Christian & Aaron Gomez in the top of the first. The Tigers matched the Tornados in the score column with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. 

CTX opened the game wide open with five runs in the third, highlighted by homeruns by Swift & Christian, and forced ETBU to go into their bullpen early.

The Tigers scored one run in the fourth, but Concordia responded with Swift's three-run beam to left field for a 10-3 score. Chris Morrow then cranked the Tornados' final homer of the game in the top of the ninth. ETBU would cut into the deficit with a three-RBI homerun in the final frame, but Concordia would punch their ticket to the next round.

Concordia Texas will now take on UT Dallas in the next round of the ASC Baseball Tournament with an automatic berth in the championship game on the line. First pitch is set for 11am.
