AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team was downed by a score of 77-61 on the road at Trinity. Destiny Mathews (27 points) & Taysie Trejo (21 points) combined for 48 points on Sunday.
Excellent defense by the Tornados propelled them to an early 15-5 advantage through the first seven minutes of action. The Tigers would cut their deficit in half at 17-12 to end the first, but CTX would build their lead back up to 23-12 following a mid-range jumper by Kiki Gonzales. Trinity would continue to chip away as they would finally tie the game up at 29-all in the waning seconds of the first half.Â
With both teams jockeying for position in the third, Trejo found Mathews for a turnaround jumper to cut the Tigers' lead to 54-52 with under 10 seconds remaining. Trinity would immediately answer with a buzzer beater three for a five-point heading into the final frame. This would then give the Tigers momentum in the fourth as they would win the quarter 20-9 to pull away.
