Women's Basketball Bounces Austin at Home

Destiny Mathews tallied game-highs of 30 points and 17 boards.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team bounced back with a solid 67-54 victory over Austin College. Destiny Mathews posted game-highs of 30 points and 17 boards inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse on Saturday. 

The Tornados led 15-12 early in the second when Ellie Haas found Lynn Bardawil for a layup that sparked a 9-2 run to give CTX their first double-digit lead of the game midway through the quarter. Concordia would keep surging as a putback by Sam Ising in the waning moments gave the Tornados their largest lead of the half at 33-18.

Concordia's largest lead would come at the 7:36 mark of the third when Mathews connected with Taysie Trejo on the wing for a three to make it 40-23. A late push would see the Roos' cut the deficit down to 10 heading into the fourth. Austin would get as close as seven points, but a Kiki Gonzales three would push the lead back up to double-digits for good as CTX would earn the conference victory.
