AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team outlasted DeSales University by a score of 15-14. Zach Seigrist recorded the program's first ever cycle on Tuesday.
CTX would get on the scoreboard first when Seigrist used his speed to score from second off a groundout-RBI from Colby Christian. The Bulldogs would respond in the top of the second and take a 3-1 lead.
The Tornados would respond by juicing the bases in the bottom of the second and Seigrist powered a two-RBI single that scored Matthew Armes & Logan Smith to tie the game. Gomez would follow him up and clear the bases with a two-RBI single up the middle to round Carson Riley & Seigrist home for a 5-3 advantage. Keeping up the pressure, Christian would launch a two-run homer to push the advantage to 7-3 entering the third.
The Bulldogs reduced the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the third. They would then claim a 9-7 lead with four more runs in the top of the fourth. Seigrist would then smash a solo homer to left center to make it 9-8 in the bottom half of the inning.
DeSales answered with five more runs in the fifth for a 14-8 lead. CTX would score again in the sixth when Christian slid a two-RBI double down the left field line to bring Gomez & Kalen Clark home for a 14-10 score. A groundout RBI by Landon Hyle would then score Christian to get the Tornados within three going into the seventh.
CTX would then make it a two-run game with a stand up RBI-double from Seigrist that scored Riley in the seventh. Gomez would then send Seigrist home for a 14-13 score with two frames left to play.
With two outs and the game in the line in the eighth, Seigrist would complete the cycle & give the Tornados the lead with a two-RBI triple. This would give CTX the momentum to close out the game as the Tornados did not give up another run in the final four innings.
