Baseball Takes Two in Doubleheader at the Ozarks

Mason Vasquez homered twice and Dakota Palmer tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts on Friday.

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned the series victory in a doubleheader at the University of the Ozarks. The Tornados won game one by a score of 8-2. Mason Vasquez & Logan Smith homered, while Dakota Palmer tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts on in run-rule victory in game two at Qualls Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: W, 8-2

CTX struck first with a two-RBI single by Colby Christian in the third. The Eagles would even the score with a pair of runs in the fourth. 

The next two frames would go scoreless, but CTX would break the tie in the seventh when Aaron Gomez capitalized on a wild pitch. Three straight RBI-singles by the Tornaods later in the frame would then score Kalen Clark, Christian, & Townsend for a 6-2 advantage.

The Tornados would continue to dominate defensively, but the Ozarks would threaten to score by putting two on in the bottom of the eighth. Ralph Wallace III would then come in and shut down the frame with a strikeout.

CTX would add insurance runs in the ninth with a RBI-single by Matthew Armes that scored Townsend & a Smith sac bunt that rounded Landon Hyle home. CTX would record the final three outs to claim game one.

GAME TWO: W, 18-4

The Eagles scored first with a run in the first inning. CTX responded in the top of the second when Vasquez tied the game on a wild pitch. They would then take a 3-1 lead in the second when Zach Seigrist singled up the middle and rounded Armes & Smith home. Seigrist would then up the lead to 4-1 on another wild pitch by the Ozarks. 

During the next at bat, the game would be halted due to a weather delay. After the delay that last over four hours, the Tornados picked right back up as Vasquez slammed a two-RBI single to center for a 6-1 advantage entering the third. The Tornados would blow the game wide open in the top of the fourth with a season-high eight runs score in the frame, highlighted by the long balls by Vasquez & Smith.

Putting on the finishing touches, CTX rattled off another four runs, highlighted by Vasquez's second homer. The Eagles would score three in the seventh, but that would not be enough to avoid the run-rule loss.
