AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team outlasted Austin College by a score of 4-1. Otto Franz struck out seven batters in eight innings of action, while Kalen Clark fired a solo shot at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
Clark got the Tornados on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when launched his homer just over left center. Adding to the lead in the fifth was Carson Riley with a hit & run single through the right side to score Eric Garcia. At the next at bat, Zach Seigrist connected on a sac fly to send Smith across the plate for a 3-0 lead entering the sixth.Â
The Roos put their first runner in scoring position by getting the first two batters on base in the top of the sixth, but the Tornados would get out of the frame unscathed to maintain the three-run lead. Adding insurance in the sixth was Landon Hyle who singled through the right side to score Colby Christian.Â
The Roos would have a chance to strike again with two runners in scoring position and one out in the top of the seventh. They would then bring home one run to make it a 4-1 game entering the eighth. That would ultimately be the final run of the evening as CTX would go on to claim game one.
Concordia Texas & Austin College will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is set for noon.
