Baseball Dominates in Doubleheader With Austin College

The Tornados struck out 18 batters and posted four homers on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team took both games in a doubleheader against Austin College. The Tornados posted 18 strikeouts & four homeruns in the doubleheader at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE: W, 11-6

Kalen Clark picked up where he left off in game one of the series with another first-inning, solo shot to left field. Lollar then made it 2-0 with his first career homer in the third. Mason Vasquez would then make it a 4-0 advantage with a two-RBI double to left center that scored Matthew Armes & Kalen Clark heading into the fourth.

The Roos answered with four runs in the top of the fourth to even the score heading into the fifth. They would then load the bases & score a run to claim a 5-4 advantage going into the seventh inning stretch.

CTX answered with a sac fly from Colby Christian that scored Armes and tied the game in the seventh. Later in the inning, the Tornados went back up 7-5 with a clutch two-out, two-RBI double by Eric Garcia that assisted Clark & Landon Hyle home going into the eighth.

Concordia juiced the bases with no outs in the eighth and made it 8-5 when Clark was hit by a pitch and Sutton Lee (pinch running for Lollar) scored. Capping his hot hitting game was Hyle with a two-RBI single for a 10-5 score.

Garcia would then connect on a RBI-single to left to make it 11-5 going into the final frame. Austin College plated run one in the ninth, but Concordia would surge ahead for the victory.

GAME TWO: W, 13-3 (8 Innings)

CTX was on fire early as Clark singled to right field to score Seigrist in the first. At the next at bat with two runners on, Christian powered a three-run homer over the chain-linked monster for a 4-0 lead.

Clark would tally two more RBIs with a double off the wall to send Austin Pryor & Seigrist home in the second. Later in the frame, Christian singled to centerfield and scored Armes, & then Bo Dinscore singled up the middle to bring Christian & Clark home for a 9-0 lead.

Seigrist pushed the advantage to 10-0 with a solo homer in the sixth. Temporarily avoiding the run-rule loss was the Roos in the top of the seventh as they scored three runs. Concordia answered with a Lollar RBI-single that scored Eric Garcia in the eighth.

Later in the frame, Aaron Gomez would walk it off with a two-RBI double that gapped to left center and assist Lollar & Pryor home.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Richardson, Texas to take on UT Dallas in a non-conference matchup this Tuesday, April 1st. First pitch is set for 3pm.
