Baseball Opens Southwestern Series With Run-Rule Victory

Otto Franz tossed a three-hit, eight-strikeout complete game on Friday.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team run-ruled Southwestern University by a score of 10-0 in eight innings. Otto Franz posted a three-hit, eight strikeout masterpiece at Rockwell Family Baseball Field on Friday.

The Tornados struck first in the top of the third when Colby Christian singled to left field and brought home Zach Seigrist. Christian would then cross home later in the inning thanks to a Jake Townsend RBI-double. Townsend would make it 3-0 by capitalizing on a throwing error by the Pirates' catcher on a dropped strikeout.

CTX added two more runs in the fourth on a Kalen Clark sacrifice fly (Logan Smith scored) and a wild pitch that scored Carson Riley. The Tornados added another run on a groundout-RBI by Smith that scored Landon Hyle in the fifth.

Keeping up the momentum in the sixth, Seigrist hammered a RBI-triple to right field that scored Riley & Aaron Gomez brought home Seigirst for an 8-0 advantage. They would then convert on another error to score Clark & push their lead up to 9-0 entering the seventh.

The final run would come in the eighth with another Townsend RBI to score Aaron Gomez. CTX would then secure the final three outs to earn the run-rule victory.
