Baseball Splits With Southwestern

The Tornados claimed game one as Colby Christian earned an inside-the-park homerun.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned a series victory as they split the doubleheader against Southwestern University. The Tornados won game one as Colby Christian earned an inside-the-park homerun at Rockwell Family Baseball Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE: W, 11-3

CTX struck first when a Logan Smith RBI-single scored Landon Hyle in the second. The Pirates took their first lead of the series with three runs in the third.

Responding back in the fifth, the Tornaods juiced the bases and Christian collected a two-RBI single that scored Zach Seigrist & Aaron Gomez. They would then add one more run when Lyle scored Christian for a 5-3 lead.

Concordia added three more runs in the seventh with RBIs by Christian, Hyle, & Matthew Armes. The lead would then get pushed up to 10-3 in the eighth when Christian slugged a two-RBI, inside-the-park homerun. The final run for the Tornados would come in the ninth when Logan Smith slapped a RBI-single to left field and scored Hyle.

GAME TWO: L, 13-2 (7 Innings)

The Pirates took control early with three runs in the first. They then added six runs in the fourth and four in the fifth for a 13-0 advantage. 

The Tornados got on the board in the seventh with a Brayden Pick RBI-groundout that scored Sutton Lee. Later in the frame, Seigrist singled to right field to score Smith. This would be the final run of the game as the Pirates would record the final out for a run-rule win.

Concordia Texas will next host DeSales University in a non-conference matchup this Monday, March 10th. First pitch is set for 6pm.
