AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team dominated with a pair of victories over the University of St. Thomas. Otto Franz & Dakota Palmer both went the distance as CTX run-ruled the Celts in both games at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday.
GAME ONE: W, 10-0 (7 Innings)
Colby Christian slapped a RBI-double down the left field line to score Zach Seigrist in the first. Bo Dinscore would then make it 2-0 with a sac fly that scored Aaron Gomez.
In the second, Carson Riley collected a RBI-groundout that scored Eric Garcia to make it 3-0. With runners on the corners, saavy base running by the Tornados saw Seigrist steal home for a 4-0 lead entering the third.
CTX player another run in the third as Kalen Clark capitalized & scored on a pair of wild pitches. In the bottom of fourth, Seigrist tallied a RBI-single that scored Logan Smith to make it 6-0.
The offense would pick back up for the Tornados in the seventh with a RBI-single from Clark that scored Gomez. They would then load the bases and Landon Hyle would score Clark for an 8-0 lead. Walking it off would be Garcia when he hammered a two-RBI shot off the left field wall to score Christian & Jake Townsend.
GAME TWO: W, 14-4
Threatening to strike first, the Celts had two runs in scoring position and only one out in the top of the second. Christian would keep the score at bay with a beautiful 9-2, double play throw out. CTX would then score in the bottom of the frame with a Matthew Armes sac fly that scored Christian.
With two runners on in the bottom of the third, Clark scored Seigrist with a RBI-single to third for a 4-0 lead.Â
The Celts would score their first runs of the day in the top of the fifth to make it a 4-3 game. The Tornados would answer in the bottom half with back-to-back doubles from Gomez & Clark. Christian would then collect a RBI-single to score Clark and extend the lead back out to three runs.Â
In an Townsend would make it 7-3 with a fielder's choice RBI that sent Christian home. The Tornados would then capitalize on errant play by the Celts to go up 13-3 entering the sixth.Â
St. Thomas notched another run to make it 13-4 in the sixth, but Garcia would walk it off once again with a RBI-single in the seventh to secure the victory.
Concordia Texas & St. Thomas will finish up the series with game three tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2pm.
