Women's Soccer Bested Against LeTourneau

Isabella Vassallo scored her first goal of the season on Sunday.

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team struck early and outshot LeTourneau, but a pair of late goals lifted the YellowJackets to a 3-1 victory on Saturday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

Concordia wasted little time getting on the board as Isabella Vassallo found the back of the net just 2:56 into the match. Maddie Oberholtzer and Lorian Lopez were both credited with assists to give CTX an early 1-0 advantage.

The Tornados continued to apply pressure following the opening goal. Oberholtzer put a pair of shots on frame in the opening eight minutes, while Vassallo and Lopez also tested the LeTourneau goalkeeper. CTX generated 11 first-half shots compared to nine for the YellowJackets.

LeTourneau found the equalizer in the 23rd minute, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

The match remained even deep into the second half before LeTourneau broke through in the 79th minute to give the YellowJackets a 2-1 advantage.

CTX continued looking for an equalizer, with Karis Hickey and Lopez generating late shot attempts. LeTourneau added its final goal in the 89th minute to secure the 3-1 result.

Despite the result, the Tornados finished with a 20-12 advantage in total shots and put eight attempts on goal. Lopez led CTX with five shots, while Vassallo and Oberholtzer recorded three apiece. Emma Guillen played all 90 minutes in goal.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Seguin, Texas to take on Texas Lutheran this Friday at 7:30pm.
