AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned another run-rule victory with a 13-1 win over the University of Dallas. Brandon Hutchings, Jackson Low, & Erich Glenewinkel combined for 15 strikeouts at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.
The Crusdaers threatened to score early, putting on the first two batters of the game. Hutchings would respond with three straight strikeouts to get out of the jam.Â
Dallas would put another runner in scoring position in the top of the second before the second-year pitcher retired back-to-back sluggers to keep the score 0-0.Â
CTX saw their scoring opportunity in the bottom of the frame with Hunter Smith & Landon Hyle reaching with no outs. Josh Atomanczyk would then bring them home with a standup double roped to right field. In the next at bat, Kolten McDaniel made it a 3-0 score with another double to left field.
The Tornados loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third, when a fielder's choice RBI by Hyle scored Kalen Clark.
The Crusaders got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Tornados got the run back immediately in the bottom of the fourth with a fielder's choice RBI by Jett Warner to escort McDaniel home.Â
Later in the frame, Louis Alonzo connected on a RBI-single through the left side to bring home Samuel Ortiz. Hunter Smith would then double to left to score Clark.Â
Continuing to score in the fourth, CTX loaded the bases before Logan Smith converted on a sacrifice fly that scored Alonzo. Capping off the six-run frame was Atomanczyk with a two-RBI infield double.
Warner put Concordia up 11-1 in the fifth with a RBI-double that blooped to center. Alonzo added another run with a RBI-single up the middle that scored Warner. Hyle then made it a 13-1 advantage with a RBI-single through the left side for the final run of the game.
Concordia Texas will look to claim the series sweep in game three tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
