AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned a series victory with a doubleheader split against Schreiner University. Schreiner claimed game one of the doubleheader, while the Tornados walked-off the finale in 13 innings at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE: L, 7-2
Schreiner notched a run in the top of the first, but Concordia answered immediately with a two-RBI shot from Bo Dinscore. After a scoreless three innings, the Mountaineers knotted the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fifth.
Schreiner then took a 3-2 lead in the sixth with a run scored & added two more in the top of the seventh.
GAME TWO: W, 5-4 (13 Innings)
The Tornados got on the scoreboard early in the first with RBIs from Kalen Clark & Jett Warner that scored Samuel Ortiz & Jake Townsend. Schreiner would cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth.
Later in the top of the sixth, Schreiner put up three runs to go up 4-2. In the bottom of the inning, Warner made it 4-3 when tallied his second RBI that scored Clark.
Concordia then evened the score in the eighth with a clutch RBI-triple from Josh Atomanczyk that scored Townsend.
The game would go into extras as both teams went scoreless for four consecutive innings. Freshman reliever Erich Glenewinkel helped keep the Tornados afloat by only allowing two hits and no earned runs allowed in 8.0 innings of action. The freshman and the Tornados' defense would only let one Mountaineer batter on base in the final seven frames.
Neither team would score again until the 13th inning when Landon Hyle laid down a sac bunt that would allow Carson Riley to beat the the throw home & score the winning run.
Concordia Texas will next host Southwestern for a non-conference game this Tuesday, February 24th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
