KERRVILLE, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team persevered with a pair of wins in a doubleheader against Schreiner University. Molly Olivarez & Kylie Kirk went yard at Moutaineer Softball Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE: W, 13-4 (5 Innings)
The Tornados struck early in the first with a RBI-single from Olivarez that scored Malarie Mican & sacrifice fly from Jerica Henry that brought home Kylie Denaro for a 2-0 lead.Â
Schreiner made it a 2-1 game with a run in the second, but CTX responded in the top of the third when Kirk laced a RBI-double to the left center fence to score Denaro. Henry then made it 4-1 as she scored Kirk with a RBI-single.
Kirk upped the Tornados' lead in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI single that scored Mican & Denaro. In the next at bat, Olivarez hammered a two-RBI homer to left for an 8-1 score.Â
Schreiner cut into the deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-4. Concordia would go on to put the game away with five runs scored in the fifth, highlighted and capped by a two-run homer by Kirk.
GAME TWO: W, 6-4
Schreiner scored a pair of runs in the first and third frames for an 4-0 lead. Concordia would make it 4-1 in the fourth with a Olivarez RBI that brought home Kirk.
CTX would inflict more damage in the sixth when Mia Post doubled to centerfield and scored Christian Everett & Karlee Mathis. Concordia then tied the game at 4-all with a sacrifice fly to escort Post to home plate.Â
The Tornados would then take their first lead of the game with RBI-singles from Kirk & Olivarez to put CTX up 6-4 through six and a half frames. Concordia would go on to claim the win and the series.
Concordia Texas will next return home for a series where they will host Centenary College starting with a doubleheader next Saturday, February 28th. First pitch is set for noon.
