SHREVEPORT, La. – The Concordia Texas baseball team split a road doubleheader against Centenary College on Saturday afternoon in Shreveport, Louisiana. Senior outfielder Landon Hyle homered in each game as the Tornados won the series finale at Sheehee Field on Saturday.
Game One: L, 7-3
Concordia struck first in the opening inning. Kalen Clark delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Samuel Ortiz to give the Tornados an early 1-0 lead.
Centenary answered in the second inning with three runs to take control. The Gents added three more in the third to extend their lead to 6-1.
The Tornados began chipping away in the fourth when Hyle launched a solo home run to left field. Concordia added another in the fifth as Hunter Smith singled home Ortiz, trimming the deficit to 6-3.
Centenary tacked on an unearned run in the eighth to secure the 7-3 final.
Game Two: W, 8-5
The Tornados responded quickly in the nightcap, scoring twice in the first inning. A wild pitch brought home the opening run before a groundout RBI by Kolten McDaniel made it 2-0.
Concordia extended the lead in the third when Hyle stayed hot at the plate, blasting a two-run home run to right center to push the advantage to 4-0.
Centenary cut into the deficit in the fifth, but the Tornados answered in the sixth. An unearned run scored on a fielder's choice before Carson Riley added an RBI single to make it 6-2.
CTX broke the game open in the eighth, scoring two more runs to stretch the lead to 8-2. The Gents rallied in the ninth with three runs, but the Tornados held on to secure the 8-5 victory.
Concordia Texas will next head to Georgetown, Texas to take on Southwestern University for a midweek matchup this Tuesday, March 3rd. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
