AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team dropped a tight contest to Centenary College on Saturday, falling 5-4 in a back-and-forth matchup at Roberts Family Field.
Concordia struck first in the opening inning. Kylie Kirk delivered an RBI single through the left side, bringing home Malarie Mican to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
Centenary evened the score in the second, capitalizing on a fielder's choice to plate an unearned run and tie the game at 1-1.
The Tornados regained the advantage in the third inning when Mia Post reached on a throwing error, allowing Kylie Denaro to score and push CTX back in front, 2-1.
The Ladies responded with a decisive fourth inning. Centenary strung together timely hits, scoring four runs in the frame to take a 5-2 lead.
Concordia mounted a late push in the seventh inning. Mican crossed the plate on a passed ball to trim the deficit to 5-3, and moments later Kirk scored on an error after Molly Olivarez reached, cutting the lead to one. However, the Tornados were unable to complete the comeback, falling 5-4.
Concordia will next host a series with LeTourneau, starting this Friday, March 6th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
