AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned a doubleheader split to claim the series victory against McMurry University. The Tornados claimed game one at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.
Game 1: W, 9-1
The Tornados struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Landon Hyle drove in Kolten McDaniel to give Concordia an early lead. Kalen Clark added an RBI single in the third to extend the advantage.
After McMurry scored its lone run in the sixth, Concordia responded quickly. Jett Warner lifted a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 3-1 before the Tornados broke the game open with a four-run seventh. Louis Alonzo delivered a two-run double and Warner followed with a two-run single to push the lead to 7-1. Concordia added two more runs in the eighth to secure the win.
Jaxson Frazier earned the win with 5.2 strong innings, while Chase North tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in relief. Concordia recorded 14 hits in the victory, led by a three-hit, three-RBI performance from Alonzo and four runs scored by McDaniel.
Game 2: L, 16-4
Concordia jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when McDaniel came around to score on a fielder's choice.
McMurry responded with a six-run second inning and continued to add to the lead throughout the game. Concordia chipped away with a run in the third on an RBI double by Warner before Alonzo delivered a two-run triple in the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The War Hawks then pulled away with six runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh. Alonzo led the Tornados offensively with three hits and two RBIs, while Logan Smith added two hits.
Concordia Texas will next host the College of Wooster for a mid-week, nonconference game this Wednesday, March 18th. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
