AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team powered past a nationally-recognized opponent on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Wooster (receiving votes) by a score of 10-4 at Gardner-Boggs Field.
Wooster struck first in the opening inning, but the Tornados responded immediately with a four-run bottom half to take control early. A two-RBI double from Kalen Clark highlighted the inning, while Jett Warner and Bo Dinscore each drove in runs to cap the rally.
CTX kept the pressure on in the second, plating three more runs behind RBI hits from Samuel Ortiz and Landon Hyle to extend the lead to 7-1. Ortiz was a force at the plate all day, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs, while Hyle added two RBIs of his own.
Wooster made things interesting in the third with a two-run homer, and added another run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-4. However, the Tornados pitching staff settled in from there, combining to hold Wooster scoreless over the final five innings.
Concordia added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings, highlighted by RBI knocks from Ortiz and Carson Riley, who also had a standout day going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Dayton Cliffe earned the win on the mound, while the Tornados used a deep pitching staff to limit the Scots to just four runs on seven hits.
Concordia Texas will next resume SCAC action in Sherman, Texas where they will take on Austin College in a series starting this Friday, March 20th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
