Baseball Shuts Out Ozarks for Series Sweep

Jake Townsend went yard & the Tornados earned their second shutout this week.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team turned in a complete performance, shutting out the University of the Ozarks 6-0 behind dominant pitching and timely hitting. Jake Townsend went yard and the Tornados earned their second shutout victory this week at Gardner-Boggs Field.

CTX set the tone early with defense, as Kalen Clark made two huge plays in the field. In both the second and fourth innings, Clark threw out the Eagles runner at the plate to erase scoring opportunities and keep Ozarks off the board.

On the mound, Gavin Voth delivered one of his best outings of the season. After entering in the second inning, Voth worked out of trouble twice, escaping bases-loaded jams in both the second and fourth without allowing a run. He finished with 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four to earn the win.

Concordia broke through offensively in the second inning when Townsend launched a solo home run to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead. The advantage doubled in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Townsend, before the offense added insurance late.

In the sixth, Jett Warner came through with a two-RBI double to push the lead to 4-0. The Tornados added two more in the eighth, again off the bat of Warner, who drove in both runs with a single to cap a four-RBI day at the plate.

Erich Glenewinkel closed the game with three shutout innings to secure the save and complete the three-hit shutout.

Concordia Texas will next head to Seguin, Texas for a series with Texas Lutheran starting next Friday, April 17th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
