BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team picked up a 6-3 road win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Logan Smith &
Louis Alonzo both went yard Wednesday night at Crusader Baseball Field.
After falling behind early, the Tornados broke the game open in the fourth inning. Samuel Ortiz delivered an RBI single to tie the game before Smith launched a three-run home run to give CTX a 4-1 lead.
Concordia added insurance in the seventh on an RBI play from Landon Hyle and again in the ninth on a solo home run from Alonzo.
On the mound, Travis Brick was dominant in relief, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. One of the biggest defensive moments came in the seventh inning when Ralph Wallace III entered the game with runners on and no outs in a high-pressure situation.
Wallace immediately settled things down, retiring the side and preserving the lead. He went on to throw the final three innings to earn the save, allowing just two runs while striking out three.
Logan Smith led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while Alonzo added a home run and two runs scored in the win.
Concordia Texas and UMHB will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow in Austin at Gardner-Boggs Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
