Baseball Bested in Doubleheader with UMHB

AUSTIN, Texas - After claiming the series opener at UMHB last night, the Concordia Texas baseball team fell in a doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor at Gardner-Boggs Field on Good Friday.

Game One: L, 7-3
Concordia dropped the opener despite collecting seven hits, as Mary Hardin-Baylor used a big middle stretch to take control early.

The Crusaders jumped out with a run in the second before a three-run third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI triple, pushed the lead to 4-0. A solo home run in the fourth and another run on a defensive miscue extended the margin to 6-1.

The Tornados got on the board in the third when Samuel Ortiz drove in Carson Riley, and later showed life in the eighth with a two-run inning behind hits from Ortiz and Logan Smith. Ortiz led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Landon Hyle added an RBI as well.

On the mound, Erich Glenewinkel provided a strong relief effort, tossing five innings and allowing just one run while keeping Concordia within reach.

Game Two: L, 6-4
Concordia battled back in game two but came up short after a late push from Mary Hardin-Baylor. UMHB struck first with two runs in the second and added another in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead.

The Tornados answered in the fifth, then surged ahead in the sixth with a three-run inning. Jett Warner delivered the biggest swing with a two-run double to tie the game, and Kolten McDaniel followed with an RBI to give Concordia a 4-3 advantage.

Jackson Low was effective out of the bullpen, striking out six across 3.2 innings to keep the Tornados in position to win. However, Mary Hardin-Baylor responded late, scoring once in the eighth and adding two more in the ninth to reclaim the lead.

Louis Alonzo and Smith each had multi-hit performances to pace the offense, while Warner finished with two RBIs.

Concordia Texas will look to rebound in a rematch with Trinity this Tuesday, April 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
